Kiddle.co

Here's one for the Elementary School Teachers:

While Google Search is a great tool for having students locate information online, we can sometimes be understandably a little apprehensive about letting our elementary school students have free range over what search results pop up.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a Google Search that was designed with Elementary students in mind?

Turns out there is -- Let me introduce you to Kiddle.co!

Please note that's it's not kiddle.com  :-)
The search results are filtered using Google's Safe Search and displayed in a nice, visible manner for students to see.  In other words, it'll allow you to breathe a nice sigh of relief when your students are searching online.

Oh, and if students happen to do a search with a word "innapropriate" for school, they receive this message:

Caution: this isn't a foolproof system, nor is it perfect!  It is, however, a handy tool that you can add to your edtech toolbelt.

Cheers!

  1. Kiddle is not a new concept by any means. We have been using KidzSearch.com for many years. It is like Kiddle, but has more features, like safe search autocomplete, voice search, Q&A student forums, learning videos, student wiki, etc. I suppose it is more like Yahoo for kids. The filtering is very good.
